{"id":2759,"date":"2012-08-20T08:40:01","date_gmt":"2012-08-20T02:40:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/klubasklasika.lt\/?p=2759"},"modified":"2017-03-19T22:00:43","modified_gmt":"2017-03-19T20:00:43","slug":"riga-retro-2012","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/klubasklasika.lt\/en\/2012\/08\/20\/riga-retro-2012\/","title":{"rendered":"”Riga Retro 2012″ – 40 year anniversary event of the Antique Automobile Club of Latvia"},"content":{"rendered":"This year, on August 18-19, neighboring Latvia\u2019s Antique Car Club (Latvijas Antiko Automobilu Klubs) celebrated its 40th anniversary. The club was founded on July 21, 1972, and it was the first antique car club in the former Soviet Union. In 1989, due to AAK\u2019s efforts and hard work an Antique Car Museum (Rigas Motormuzejs) was founded in Riga, next to the Bikernieki Race Track. The Museum and the AAK Club have been closely working ever since. The Museum showcases more than 240 rare and original artifacts of the 19th<\/sup> and 20th<\/sup> centuries and half of them are the property of the AAK Club.<\/p>\n

The jubilee celebration entitled \u201cRiga Retro 2012″ started with the registration of participants in the parking lots of Rigas Motormuzejs. According to the organizers, the festival has presented over 170 cars from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Russia, Belarus and Finland that were manufactured in 1923-1982. Participants were split into four groups depending on the year of make and the type of their automobiles: motorcycles; special use cars and cars made before 1945, Soviet cars, and cars made after 1945.<\/p>\n

Lithuania was represented by 12 cars and motorcycles. Having received invitations from fellow Latvians, two members of Antique Car Club \u201cKlasika\u201d participated in the event. Dalius Linkevicius showcased his Oldsmobile (1929), and Egidijus Einoris participated with his Mercury Comet Convertible (1964).<\/p>\n

After the registration was over, the attendees lined up on the Bikernieki Race Track and after doing a few laps headed towards the center of Riga. Many of the city dwellers and visitors of Riga had a chance to admire the vintage car parade in the main streets of the city and a show in the central Kalpakas Street. After the show, the old cars were in for a serious challenge \u2013 a 100 kilometers drive to the town of Cesis, where yet another car show was held. In the evening, after the show ended, participants went to a local homestead, where a party was held and everyone could rest or enjoy a conversation. It was the largest antique car show that was ever held in Latvia.<\/p>\n
